January 2016

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

We hope that everyone had a restful break filled with many memory making moments.  We are so happy to see everyone's smiling faces back in the classrooms this week.  The children seem excited to see friends and explore the freshly fallen snow on our playground!!

As we head into the new year, there are a few updates that should be noted...

As many of you already know, our dear Miss.Shivonne is quickly approaching the due date (February 29th) for her first baby!  We are overjoyed for her and are sending positive thoughts and energy her way for this last little bit of waiting.

We are also pleased to announce that we have secured a fulltime teacher, Miss. Ashleigh,  to step into her place for the remainder of the school year!  Miss. Ashleigh has been substitute teaching with our team since November and we are confident that she will be a wonderful addition to our school.  With 10 years experience working with children and families, Miss. Ashleigh brings abounding creativity, energy and passion to the program, along with genuine kindness and a calm, peaceful presence that draws children to her.  Look for her bio to be up on the parent boards soon!

Our upcoming themes for the month of January will be Winter and Artic Exploration!  We will be delving into the world of ice, snow and arctic animals of every shape and size!

We would like to turn our dramatic play areas into winter scenes with large igloos, so we are asking for donations from families to help with this.  If you are able, please bring in empty, clean 4litre milk jugs so we can build igloos for the children to play in!

Just a reminder....

As always, our doors are open to parents at the end of class!  If there is anything you wish to discuss with us, just pop in and let us know.  We can either chat with you then, or set up a time that works better, but please don't hesitate to ask!

On this note:  Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in April 2016 for 4 year old students.

These are informal discussions about your child's progress through the year, and what you can expect moving towards kindergarten.  These meetings are completely optional.  If we have had any concerns about your child's fine/gross motor, social/emotional, or cognitive development (ability to grasp new concepts) we will most certainly have already spoken to you on those points, so that we have plenty of time to support and encourage your child before the end of the year.

While we definitely expose the students to daily activities that encourage pre- writing and reading, letter recognition and phonetics, science and math concepts, and self help skills, we do so in a play based environment.  Our main focus is always on children developing not only kindergarten readiness skills, but also building their confidence, feelings of self worth, and social skills.  We believe deeply that these are the building blocks that will contribute to a strong foundation moving forward into school, and will help to foster a lifelong love of learning!
