November Newsletter

Happy November, Douglas Park Families.

The first two months of school have seemed to go by in a flash!  The students and teachers were kept busy this last month with a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch, a Douglas Park Pumpkin Day (for the 3's) and our Halloween parties! If you haven't already, make sure you scroll down through the blog to see some pictures of these fun events and activities!

A friendly reminder:  Our classes go outside most days, even in the rain!  Please don't forget to send your child in weather appropriate clothing so they can enjoy puddle jumping with their friends in comfort.  Rain boots, waterproof jackets and pants, as well as hats and even light mittens to keep little hands cozy.

Remembrance Day in the class

This month, the children will be learning about what Remembrance Day means.  We will be having age appropriate conversations about what peace means and people in our families that we remember each year.  If you have stories and photos from your family that would be appropriate to share in class, please send them along with your child.  We will have special Show and Tell time during circle through this week, as well as next.

An example:

Miss.Sam's Grandfather upon returning from WWII.  He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)

Miss.Sam: Ethan, why do we wear poppies?
Ethan (age 4): So for we can a'member Gigi's Daddy.
Miss Sam: What did he do?
Ethan: He flewed the planes. He was soooooo brave.

Letter of the Month

Beginning this month, the four-year-old classes will be having Letter of the Week each Friday.  Please check the classroom white boards (or the blog) for which letter is on that Friday and then your child may bring in an item from home that starts with that letter.  For example, if the letter of the week is A, your child could bring in a picture of an acorn or even a toy antelope.  Then we will do a group Show and Tell.  It is not mandatory for your child to bring something each week.

Upcoming.....

Don't forget to mark your calendar for our Winter Celebration on Friday, December 16th!  A more formal invitation will be sent home towards the end of November with all of the information you need!
